The United States marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

But this 25th anniversary of 9/11 is deeply significant for Pakistan, a nation that paid an immense price as a frontline state in the global War on Terror, losing over many hundred thousands civilians and security personnel while suffering more than many trillions in economic damage.

Some argue that this is the defining strategic lesson Pakistan learned from the post-9/11 era: serving as a transactional "frontline proxy" in a third party's conflict may yield short-term tactical relief, but it ultimately creates long-term strategic vulnerabilities.

Someone else's war carries a price far higher than any short-term diplomatic gain.
